Hanging your painting can be a straightforward process but hanging oversized paintings can be a bit more challenging, but with the right approach, you can do it effectively. Here’s how:
-
1. Choose the Location
- Find a wall that can accommodate the size of the painting and enhances its impact.
2. Determine Height
- Aim to hang the painting at eye level, usually about 57 to 60 inches from the floor to the center of the artwork.
3. Gather Supplies
- Heavy-duty picture hooks or wall anchors (depending on the weight)
- Level
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Stud finder (for heavy pieces)
- Hammer or drill
4. Find Wall Studs
- Use a stud finder to locate studs in the wall for secure anchoring, especially for heavier pieces.
5. Measure and Mark
- Measure the distance from the top of the painting to the hanging hardware or wire.
- Mark the desired height on the wall.
6. Install the Hangers
- Install heavy-duty picture hooks or wall anchors at the marked points.
- If using multiple hooks for balance, space them evenly according to the width of the painting.
7. Hang the Painting
- With help, carefully lift the painting and place it on the hooks or anchors. Make sure it's secure.
8. Level and Adjust
- Use a level to ensure the painting is straight. Adjust as necessary.
9. Step Back and Evaluate
- Take a step back to see how the painting looks in the space and make any final adjustments.
If you’re still having trouble, we recommend hiring a local installer to safely hang the artwork on your wall.
Enjoy your newly hung artwork!
